Camp Restore Detroit

An Update from our Camp Director

Hi Camp Fam,

It is hard for me to believe, but I have been at Camp Restore Detroit for a whole year now! And what a year it has been. I have learned so much, met some amazing people, made a lot of new friends, and had my first summer of running camp. Last year at this time I was still learning the ways of CRD and what life looked like outside running camp in the summer. So I was excited to jump into October this year with some experience and my “new guy” energy.

This Fall is shaping up to be a full one with school field trips, weekend volunteer groups, community pop-ups, community dinners, and service days happening alongside our daily programs and activities. In the month of October alone, we have been able to come alongside five different community organizations. Our volunteers have been able to help pack food boxes, repair and paint flower boxes around a local elementary school, help a local urban farmer ready his planting boxes with mulch and compost, clean out a community garden to help prepare it for the changing season, plant tulip bulbs, help at a fall bazaar, and even more. And this is just how our volunteers have served our community.

Our volunteers have also helped in so many ways on the CRD campus too! We are so grateful to our amazing supporters and volunteers from Lutheran Church of the Redeemer for participating in our service day and blessing us by continuing work on the Redeemer house. It is amazing how much framed windows can help a room feel even closer to being completed! And the always amazing Anthony Smith along with the Vocational Training team finished the deck on the rear of the house. I can not wait to invite you all to come to campus and check it out real soon!

So many more things have happened this month, and we are excited to share more with all of you on our social media accounts, so please keep a close eye on those channels. If you see a picture in this update that you want to know more about, let us know and we may even make a post with more details just for you.

Thank you all so much for your continued prayers and support!

Blessings,

Tanya Karn
