When talking to neighbors about ‘the good ol’ days’, stories abound about walking to get ice cream in the neighborhood and hanging out with friends. As residency plummeted and nearly 90% of the property in our neighborhood became abandoned, the ice cream stores and gathering places became abandoned too, making isolation the norm. Due to the decline in the neighborhood, our community Is often overlooked when planning revitalization of gathering places and cafes - places that are meant for people to find solace together and to be a sanctuary from the stress of everyday life.
Your support is making the return of neighborhood gathering space possible.
The hard work of numerous volunteers, even many repeat volunteers from Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the youth mentoring team, and more, all under the direction of A.N.D. Construction (located in our community), is bringing us to completion of the transformation of the Redeemer Cafe. The makerspace and playspace are up next! This cafe and fellowship space where people can gather, grab a coffee, and connect with friends and neighbors, should be open soon!
The basement will host a mini makerspace for anyone interested in activities such as 3D printing, photography, sewing, or t-shirt making, just to name a few. This will help meet the needs of entrepreneurs and designers in our community. Your support provides access for community members to learn a new skill, hone in on a hobby, or even create a business. Imagine the businesses people will create!
The backyard will be an outdoor patio and children’s playspace, encouraging connections, time outdoors, and children’s health and wellness.
This space transformation is a manifestation of the hope we’ve been given in Jesus, that where two or more gather in His name, He will be there with us.
